Folio

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 4, 2026

This Folio-specific policy supplements the Atlas Peak Media privacy policy and describes the data behavior of the Folio iOS app.

Overview

Folio is a document and book scanner for iPhone and iPad. It is designed to be local-first: your scans, the PDFs and images Folio generates, the text it extracts with OCR, your folders, tags, and smart fields, and anything you place in the Face ID vault are created by you and stored on your device.

Folio does not require an Atlas Peak Media account.

Data Folio Handles

Scans and exports: the page images you capture and the PDFs, JPEGs, and text files Folio generates from them. These stay on your device unless you choose to share them.

OCR text: text recognized from your scans. OCR runs on your device using Apple's Vision framework; the recognized text is stored alongside the scan so you can search it.

Organization: titles, folders, tags, smart fields, and search indexes you create.

Vault contents: any scans you move into the Face ID-protected vault. The vault is unlocked locally by Apple LocalAuthentication.

Subscription status: Apple StoreKit tells the app whether your Apple ID has an active Premium subscription or the Lifetime Unlock. Atlas Peak Media does not receive your payment card information.

Storage and Sync

Folio stores your scans, OCR text, and organization locally on your device.

iCloud sync is optional and, when enabled, uses your own private iCloud account through Apple CloudKit. Atlas Peak Media has no access to your iCloud data.

Exporting a searchable PDF, JPEG, or plain-text file produces a file you choose to share through the iOS share sheet. Exporting does not transmit your documents to Atlas Peak Media.

Third-Party Services

Apple services: App Store and StoreKit (purchases), VisionKit and PDFKit (scanning and PDF generation), the Vision framework (on-device OCR), LocalAuthentication (the Face ID vault), and CloudKit (optional private iCloud sync).

Folio does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

What Folio Does Not Do

Folio does not sell your scans, OCR text, or organization data.

Folio does not use your documents for advertising.

Folio does not upload your scans to an Atlas Peak Media server. Every scan, OCR pass, and filter runs on your device.

Folio does not receive or store Face ID or Touch ID templates. Biometric unlock is handled locally by Apple.

Deleting Data

You can delete individual scans, folders, or vault items inside the app. You can also remove all local Folio data by deleting the app from your device. If you enabled iCloud sync, manage that copy in iOS Settings under your Apple ID.
